Step 2: The Belief

Any thorn must to be attached to a stem of some description. The stem in the BBB+ Advocacy Method is the underlying belief that has created the thorn.

This belief could have many origins, for a student it could be what their peers are saying, for a non-music teacher it could be their own experiences of learning music or their lack of any of these experiences, for a parent it could be the concern that a musical career is not a financially stable or emotionally safe career.

The easiest way to start understanding the belief (the stem) that is holding the thorn, is to ask a simple question that is related to the thorn. This question needs to get the person or audience you are speaking to or emailing, to explain the reasoning behind what they have said.
