Auditory processing may be different for girls and boys
Do men and women hear differently? Maybe.
This report speaks on the lack of auditory processing differences at birth and in young children, but how differences may appear in adolescents as puberty changes our brains and bodies. This research has interesting implications – it may contribute to our understanding of why males seem more vulnerable to language disorders than females. It may reinforce the need to interpret test results in light of carefully constructed sex and age-specific norms. And, it may suggest that males and females respond differently to interventions using music.
The big question is – does it mean music learning could be approached differently for adolescent learning? Do you, as a music teacher of high school students, teach differently by sex-difference, or is it more complex than this?
